RECIPE: Simple Hot Cider

Here’s how I throw together a hot drink quickly for Halloween or winter holidays.  Keep the shelf stable “cider” in your pantry, and you can whip this up anytime the mood strikes.

4 cups Cider or Trader Joe’s unfiltered apple juice

2 smidgen* cloves (about 1/8 tsp.)

2 pinches* nutmeg (scant 1/4 tsp.)

2 dashes* cinnamon (try Vietnamese cinnamon) (less than 1/2 tsp.)

4 tsp. coconut sugar or brown sugar or a tiny scoop of KAL stevia extract powder

1-2 Tbsp. butter

Heat everything til steaming and mix well. Maybe add some brandy.

*I have a set of three measuring spoons which are labeled Smidgen, Pinch and Dash. Perfect for this job.

  1. Serve this with some cheese! I love the Holland Goat Gouda from Costco–it’s creamy and “dairy free” (cow’s) and super yummy. Any cheddar will do.
